Video Insertion Generator ITS Model 6980G-HD,  is a video inserter designed to insert GPS or IRIG B time, sampled precisely at vertical sync time, into serial digital interface (SDI) video.  The unit will sense an applied SD, HD, or 3G SDI signal and automatically adjust to the format. A time message is inserted into the video image and if selected into the SDI meta-data packets, which is derived from either the internal GPS receiver or an applied IRIG B time code signal. When using GPS, the unit automatically acquires all in-view satellites and locks an internal disciplined clock to the time reference. If an IRIG signal is used as a reference it is decoded and used to synchronize the clock.  If the GPS or IRIG lock is lost the 6980G-HD will automatically continue to run on the internal clock.

Remote control of the 6980G-HD may be performed via either the Ethernet or RS-232 ports. Commands applied to these ports allow the operator to configure the output video display, enter alphanumeric data, position the movable crosshair and read the unit status and time data.  The included keyboard provides for local control of the unit.

Multi-Channel HD-SDI Video Data Encoder, Model 6055C-nxGHD is a two, four, six, eight  or ten channel (n) video inserter designed to overlay GPS ( the x option) or IRIG B time, GPS position (when present), text, a fixed and movable crosshair in a range of colors on an HD-SDI video bit stream.  Time is sampled precisely on each vertical sync decoded to 4▒2 ÁS with respect to the time reference.  The 6055C-nxHD may also be commanded to record time in VANC ancillary metadata packets formatted as a Microsecond Timestamp in accordance with MISB 605.3. Each video channel operates independently permitting them to be individually time stamped and other data overlaid without synchronized video sources.  Each channel independently auto-detects and decodes 480i, 576i, 720p or 1080i/p 4:2:2 imaging format at 23.97, 24, 25, 29.97,30,50 and 59.94 and 60 fields/frames per second.  Time and other data overlaid anywhere in the active video area and may be set to one of 8 colors.   End-to-end processing introduces a latency of less than 4 Áseconds. The time reference is derived from internal GPS receiver (option) or external IRIG B time code source.  If the GPS or IRIG lock is lost the unit continues to run on an internal disciplined crystal clock.  A Stratum 3 option reduces free-run time drift to less than 3 Áseconds/hour. 

The 6055C-nxHD may be remotely controlled through either an Ethernet or RS-232 port.  The remote command set offers full setup, overlay and KLV pack control. A detachable keyboard provides for local control of the unit as well as a local set up menu.

The “CS” option adds two more outputs per video channel. One output delivers a tri-level sync (TLS) for SMPTE 296M (720 formats) or 274M (1080 formats).  The second output is TTL sync occurring once per frame at vertical sync.   These signals are phase locked to the time reference (GPS or IRIG).   The TTL output may be programmed for 10 fps, 100 and 200 fps frame rates in addition to the standard SMPTE rates.

The KL option adds the ability and commands to embed up to two additional SMPTE 291M type 02 KLV metadata packs.  The KL Option Software Toolkit is included that facilitates authoring of KLV user data content, monitoring, decode and display of any or all of the metadata content on a frame to frame basis.

The KT option (available in the  6, 8 and 10-channel systems) adds a 14‑21 bit (programmable) interface for collection of azimuth, elevation and range data from a Kineto camera mount or other compatible device.  Each video channel independently reads the current value on detection of vertical sync.

All functions and controls are available from the supplied keyboard, or remotely via the Ethernet or RS-232 ports.

The 6055C-6GHD is housed in a rack mountable aluminum enclosure, 19" wide and ranges in height from 1U to 3U and in depth from 9 inches to 15 inches depending on number of video channels and installed options.  It is powered by 100 to 240VAC 50/60 Hz. HD-SDI Video Inserter/Recorder, Model 6520  is a ruggedized SDI video inserter-recorder (I-R) that records and plays uncompressed SDI video. Source video may be, 20p or 1080p at 25, 30, 50 and 60 frames/sec and 480i/60 1080i/60 and at NTSC rates.  The 6520 will detect the input video format and synchronize to it automatically. The SDI video source may be monitored live while recording with less than 8Ásec of in-out latency.

The unit records all HANC (AES audio and other metadata) and VANC metadata.  The I-R can overlay text and crosshairs (fixed and movable) while recording or during playback. It can insert VANC KLV metadata including the MISB Microsecond Timestamp (0605.3).  All timestamps are accurate to within 4Ásec.  The user may design a custom metadata KLV key using ITS KLV SOFTWARE TOOLKIT currently delivered with our HD-SDI products.  When metadata is recorded, the 6520 decode and overlay metadata during playback as well as extract and send it out as a data record per frame.

There are three modes of recording; Event Record (ER) , ER DDR3/SSD for long post event or Continuous Record (CR) to the removable SSD.  All modes record UNCOMPRESSED SDI video at the native resolution and frame rate. When in ER mode, the recorder will continuously record to DDR3 the number of frames set by the user (up to 60,000) in a loop.  When an event is triggered, the 6520 will stop recording after the number of frames set by the user has been received after the event marker.  The clip data may be played back from the DDR3 as SDI to the output video port, saved to SSD as a clip. The 6520 I-R can also continuously record to the removable SSD to the full 1TB capacity (e.g. 47 minutes of 1080p/60).  During any playback, the video may be stopped, played back 1 frame at a time or from slow motion 1/32xFR to 1xFR in 32 steps or at 2xFR to 32xFR either forward or reverse.  Playback may be one clip at a time, or continuous (all clips concatenated).  Clips saved to SSD may be any mix of the input formats.

When the camera sync option is included, the 6520 tri-level sync (TLS) may be programmed or auto synchronized to match the camera format (must be one of the supported formats). TLS is phase locked to GPS or external IRIG B and may also be delayed in 1Ásec steps enabling synchronization of picture taking across a variety of imaging technologies (e.g. CMOS, CCD or IR).  Supporting data collection time coherent to imagery, the camera sync option also provides a TTL strobe output that may be adjusted relative to the TLS ▒16ms in 1Á steps to help align data acquired with the image of each frame.   A built in DOD 5220.22-M clean function implements method C for the volatile DDR3 record memory and when there is an SSD (non-volatile) the function implements method C; then method H.

The Model 6520 is available in two configurations, a ruggedized enclosure suitable for mobile applications and a rack mount version.  Both are powered by 9-36 VDC or optionally 115 VAC. All indicators and SSD access is on the front panel.  All connectors are on the rear.

The Model 6041G-HD is a ruggedized SDI video inserter. When the unit is placed within 100 meters of an SDI video source, the 6041G-HD enables accurate time stamping of each video frame/field. Time stamping prior to any compression and transmission of the SDI stream from a remote source such as a range camera, ensures that time recorded is accurate to within 10 microseconds of the frame or field sync.. Since the unit reclocks the SDI stream, it may also be used as a repeater extending the distance from the SDI video source to the transport insertion equipment (compressor, Ethernet, or other transport means). The unit auto-detects and decodes the imaging format permitting most SDI 480i/p, 720p or 1080i/p NTSC or PAL sources to be connected without having to change system settings. The time message may be inserted into the active video image, with the color (1 of 16) and location selected by the user. When selected, the time is also inserted into the SDI meta-data (vertical ancillary packets) in accordance with MISB STD 0605.3 and NATO STANAG 4609. The time reference is derived from either the internal GPS receiver or an external IRIG B time code source. If the GPS or IRIG lock is lost the unit will automatically continue to run on an internal clock.  

Additionally, when using GPS as the reference, the 6041G-HD can insert position into the video image.  

The 6041G-HD is remotely controlled via either an Ethernet or RS-232 port. Commands allow the operator to specify all annotation and read the unit status and time data.

The Models 6316, Video Concentrator Multiplexer and 6314, Video Coordinate Digitizer make up the key components of the Naval Surface Warfare Center's Weapon Impact Scoring System (WISS) and have features that can provide significant capabilities to HD video instrumentation applications.

The 6316 VCM receives up to four uncompressed HD-SDI video signals, synchronizes the input video streams and creates a single uncompressed output with precisely aligned video stripes.  The stripes correspond to user defined selection of the desired video lines for each.  The alignment is accomplished by decoding the metadata packets, which contain the exact time of the beginning of the video frames. This time value is inserted by an ITS video inserter/synchronizer located at the video source.  The VCM then buffers the incoming video and adjusts the relationship between the video inputs to match the decoded time values.  This function corrects any latency variations that have been introduced as a result of the transport of the video signal from the cameras to the VCM regardless of the distance between the cameras and the control center.


The Model 6314 VCD receives the consolidated HD-SDI signal and provides operator controls allowing precise time measurement of events contained in each video stripe.  Since the stripes are time aligned, this allows comparison and triangulation of common events.  The unit also can decode metadata packets embedded in the video and display as an overlay on the observed video. These data may include information inserted by either or both the VCM and the source video synchronizer.  The operator can select the color, size and location of the decoded message.

The VCM and VCD makes use of the HD Video technology developed by ITS over the past five years as well as new specialized digital techniques developed specifically for WISS
